Dear Anne:
In response to your letter dated January 30, 1980 expressing concern about the loss of boron traceability in respect of some of the boral plates at Brocks and Perkins, commonwealth Edison is also concerned about this situation and, of course, we will keep you informed of the corrective actions which have been and are being taken to assure that this problem does not recur.
Walt Shewski told me this morning that Brooks and Perkins is developing a new system to reduce the length of serial numbers and the amount of manual-number transfers,
which led to the traceability problem.
A representative of
- SC's Quality Assurance Program has arrived at Brooks and Perkins this morning and is working with Erooks and Perkins to implement this solution.
They are in telephone ccmmuni-cation with the Commonwealth Edison Quality Assurance Department.
When the new proposals are in place, Common-wealth Edison's Quality Assurance people will go to Brooks and Perkins to verif" that they are adequate.
This should happen either tomorrow or Monday or Tuesday.
Earlier this week, prior to your letter, I-had elready sent you pursuant to our informal agreement on discovery all the information we have at the present time, including rather detailed information on the neutrcn attenua-tion test which will be used to requalify each of the boral plates for which traceability has been lost.

I had Tom Tramm raise the issue in his affidavit in advance of receiving complete documentation in an effort to satisfy y
our obligation to keep the Licensing 3 card apprised of relevant information, especially where decisionmaking is imminent.
