Dear Mr. Grier:

MAIN STEAM PIPE SPOOLS 10CFR50.55(e), " POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY" NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On December 21, 1979, a verbal report was made to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr.

R. McGaugby, advis-ing of a potential significant item.

The referred item was a less than minimum wall thickness found on a Main Steam pipe spool supplied by General Electric.

The problem was reported to have occurred due, to error in calculations due to use of incorrect corrosion allowance.

The following information is hereby submitted pursuant to our initial report and in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).
