..s MAINE YANKEE Fire Protection Review Item 3.1.5 - Gas Suppression System (Additional Information)
The following is additional information pertaining to our letter of Feoruary 8,1980 which was an evaluation of Maine Yankee's submittal on SER Item 3.1.5.
In this letter we concluded that the. licensee's submittal pertaining to the installation of an automatic Halon fire suppression system in the control room cable chase was unacceptable because it lacked the design concentration and soak time for the proposed system.
The letter also stated that the submittal contained no information on subitems B and C of this item pertaining to the proposed generator bearing gas suppression system and the change from manual to automatic actuation of the existing CO2 system in the protected cable tray roan.
In order to close out item 3.1.5, we recommend that the staff request that the licensee be directed to include the following features in their proposed Halon fire suppression system at the control room cable chase:
"The cable chase in the control room should be provided with a Halon 1301 fire suppression system designed to the applicable provisions of NFPA 12A; with provisions for two discharges each capable of producing a 7% concen-tration for 10 minutes. Automatic actuation of the system should be ini-tiated by cross zoned ionization type fire detectors.
Subitems B and C of this item do not require a submittal from the licensee be-cause these were not design review items in the SER. Accordingly, our letter which indicated that the licensee should provide additional information on these subitems was in error suggesting that the licensee be required to submit this information.
