Subject:
Byron Station Units 1 and 2 Braidwood Station Units 1 and 2 Supplemental Response to IE Bulletin 79-25
" Failures of Westinghouse BFD Relays in Safety-Related Systems" NRC Docket Nos. 50-4 54/4 55 and 50-456/457 Reference (a):

L.
Peoples letter to J. G.
Keppler dated January 4, 1980
Dear Mr. Keppler:
Reference (a) indicated that no Westinghouse type BFD relays are in use or are planned for use in safety-related applications <
.he subject units.
It has subsequently been determined that cype NBFD four pole relays have been supplied as part of the 4160v ESF Switchgear circuit breakers at Byron and Braidwooo Stations.
Since the NBFD four pole relay is not subject to the " sticking" problem addressed in Westinghouse Technical Bulletin NSD-TB-78-16, nor the
" insufficient overtravel" problem addressed in Westinghouse Technical Bulletin NSD-TB-79-0 5, no corrective action is required.
This supplemental information is being submitted for your information, and completes our response on the subject units.
The response submitted in Reference (a) as applied to LaSalle County Station remains correct as originally submitted.
Very truly yours, A.4/
