Dear Sir:
In accordance with our letter of September 14, 1979 responding to IE Bulletin 79-OlA concerning the use of ASCO solenoid valves in safety-related systems at the Trojan Nuclear Plant, we are providing the attached list of ASCO valves that we intend to replace with functionally equivalent NP-1 type ASCO solenoid valves. Our letter of September 14, 1979 noted that it may be necessary to block isolation of the Containment instrument air supply in order to provide an air source for operation of these valves. We have since determined tha!., if needed at all, these valves do not have to be available until sometime after a postulated Safety Injection Signal,has been reset. Therefore, there is no need to block isolation of the' air supply.
Adequately qt alified ASCO NP-1 solenoid valves require a minimum of 14 weeks for purchase and acquisition.
Every effort will be made to procure and install these valves prior to startup of Cycle 3 refueling.
