This is in regard to the resubmittal of your request for approval of routes to be used for shipments of spent fuel from Columbia, Missouri, to the Department of Energy Savannah River Plant, Aiken, South Carolina, as contained in your letter of August 30, 1979.
The route designated " Road Transportation Route, 8-30-79," as resubmitted

August 30, 1979, is judgcd to meet the regulatory requirements in accordance I
with 10 CFR Part 73.37 and accordingly is approved. This approval in no j
way attests to the traffic and highway safety of the route nor implies an I
ftRC endorsement thereof from a traffic and highway safety standpoint.
Also the approval does not guarantee that there will be no local or state legislation applicable to the route that restricts or prohibits the novement of radioactive materials.
The initial arrangements with local law enforcement agencies along the route, as required by 10 CFR Part 73.37(a)(2), have been completed by the

f'RC staff. Data relating to these arrangements and a copy of the approved i
route are enclosed. This information is to be incorporated into your j
shipment plan and provided to your carrier along with instructions regarding its use.
Our letter of August 10, 1979 approving your " proposed alternate" route i
as subnitted July 12, 1979 is hereby rescinded.
Please destroy all l

Please note that the notification requirements of 10 CFR Part 73.72 for each individual shipment still apply.
