WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 NOV 211979 FCUP:RLS70-820 United Nuclear Corporation ATTN: Mr. C. E. Bowers, General Manager UNC Recovery Systems One Narragansett Trail Wood River Junction, Rhode Island 02894 Gentlemen:
We have received your letters dated June 20, September 28, October 24, and November 9,1979, concerning your waste management plan and current program.
The plan and modifications described in these letters and the attachments appear to meet the general intent of Conditions 25 and 26 of License SNM-777. However, your plan and the supplemental information do not include any schedule of waste removal quantities or disposal rates, including volume reductions to date, that would help to assure that the lagoons will be decontaminated by July 1,1982.
You are requested to provide us within 30 days of the date of this letter, a status report on the lagoon inventories and a schedule of planned quarterly removals leading to complete decontamination of the lagoons by July 1, 1982. That schedule should include the process infonnation, e.g., evaporation rates, solidification rates, operating times, on which the predicted schedule is based.
It is our understanding that the waste burials referred to in your letters and attachments are offsite burials at a licensed waste disposal site. This interpretation is consistent with Amendment No. 4 to License No. SNM-777, issued November 22, 1978.
Sincerely,
- h. N
