January 30, 1980
@N CHAIRMAN Mr. Floyd L. Culler, President Electric Power Research Institute Post Office Box 10412 Palo Al',, California 94303
Dear Mr. Culler:
Thank you for your letter of December 21, 1979.
- appreciate your offering the assistance of EPRI and the Nuclear Safety Analysis Center (NSAC) in handling some of the actions facing the NRC as a result of the TMI-2 accident.
The staff is aware of the work EPRI is sponsoring through its Nuclear Division and the TMI accident analysis work being done at NSAC.
It is my understanding that members of NSAC staff will be briefing the NRC on the results of their analysis in January and that other joint NRC-EPRI programs are discussed regularly at NRC-EPRI coordination meetings. Also, NRC staff members have been developing a joint EPRI-DOE-NRC-GPU program to collect information and data from the TMI-2 plant which should be of value 'n studying the response and safety of nuclear plants during and after an accident. This joint program is still under discussion among the va-ious parties, as you may know.
I think a discussion of broad areas where EPRI might provide assistance to NRC on the technical resolution of broad safety issues would be useful.
Therefore I would be glad to meet with you.
Since ely, i
