HOUSION LIGHIING & POWER x Docket No. 50-466 CP x

(Allens Creek, Unit 1) x MCCORKLE'S ANSWERS TO SECOND SET OF INTERROGATORIES FROM HL & P

, Interrogatory: 3:

1 (d). he hydrogen 6etter loses its effectiveness after it all chemically reacts with the hydrogen near it. When still more hydrogen appears the 6etter is useless. Also the 6etter may become contaminated in such a man-ner that it can' t act as a hydrogen getter.

2 (a). As the fuel densifies the fission neutrons emitted from one nucleus will be closer to other U neutrons so that the reaction rate of fission will in-crease causin6 power spikes and increased heat generation rate.

(b). The linear heat generation rate should mors than triple for some fuel rods, and this will destroy the fuel rod integrity by causing fuel and rod meltin6 (c). The increase in anticipated spikes is unknown but expected to be sub-stantial, and it will decrease the fuel rod integrity by causing cracks and pinholes in the fuel rods.

Interrogatory C:

1. (c) Unfiltered leakage rates of 5%,105, er 20% of the total containment leakage rate would exceed the 10 CFR Part 100 tuidelines because the en-gineered features of the plant should insure a low risk of public expos ure, his is especially true for the Allens Creek site because of the large population density expected around the plant during the latter part of its lifetime.
