D. J. Skovholt, Assistant Director for Operating Reactors, L INDIAN POINT UNIT NO. 2 SIMULATOR On November 7,1973 Mr. Buzy, Mr. Holman and I visited the Singer Corporation offices at the request of Mr. R. Burdge, Consolidated Edison Trataing Manager, to observe the operation of the I. P.
Unit No. 2 simulator.
Consolidated IMison requested that we evaluate the simulator's response and behavior to normal transient operations and to spprove its use in a training program for operators and senior operators to be conducted from December 1, 1973 to March 1974.
We found the simulator's response to normal transients to be excellent including startup, loading the turbine generator and plant maneuvering in the power range.
Presently, only twenty-five malfunctions can be programmed from the instructor's console, all of them of a minor nature. Uow-ever, an almost infinite number of malfunctions can be initiated at the control panels. Consequently, trainees may be taught plant response to malfunctione.
Consolidated Edisor, plans to use the simulator in its present condition for one class of trainees. Then, the Singer Corpora-tion will complete the programming and fine tuning before it will be used in future training programs.
Eased on our evaluation of the simulator's response and the be?nnee of the training program for this first class of trainees, we informed Mr. Burdge that the simulator was acceptable for use in their training program.
