MEETING ON ZIMMER INTAKE STRUCTURE - OCTOBER 15, 1980, BETHESDA, MARYLAND

Background

On June 24, 1980, Cincinnati Gas and Elect-ic Company briefed the staff on a potential silting problem encountered at the !immer Ohio River intake structure. At the meeting the company described the method of eliminating the potential problem it had planned and comitted to testing its effective.1ess.

The purpose of this meeting was to describe the progress made to date and cnanges to the original approach. The attendance list and presentation matter are attached.

Summary Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company summarized the previous meeting, held June 24, 1980, and provided answers to questions that were raised by the staff at that meeting.

It also addressed environmental questions issued to the company by letter dated July 15, 1980. The summary and answers are contained in the attachments to this summary.

Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company also described the silt cleanout plans for the service water intake and pump modifications, providing a status report on plant modifications, demonstracion programs and interfaces with other federal and state agencies having jurisdiction over discharges to the Ohio River. The conpany plans to submit its formal report in November 1980.

Finally, Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company described an auxiliary pump system being installed to use cooling tower basin water as a backup servTce water supply in the unlikely event of loss of all river water, this system goes beyond current NRC requirements.
