I&E Bulletin 79-25 dated Ncvember 2, 1979 Gentlemen: Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1 Westinghouse BFD Relays As requested in I.E. Bulletin 79-25 we have investigated the use of Westinghouse BFD relays in Millstone Unit 1 safety related areas. It was determined that, while Westinghouse BFD relays are used in the Diesel Generator controls, only one (normally energized) could have been subject to the problem described in I.E. Bulletin 79-25. Further investigation showed that this relay was not of the type experiencing failure. Additionally, we are advised by Westinghouse that the style of relays that we identified as being used in the Diesel Generator controls have the old style coils which are the molded type and are not subject to the problem discussed in the Westinghouse Nuclear Services Divison's Technical Bulletin.
