TC NSD NORTHERN STATES POWER COMPANY M I N N E A PO LI S. M I N N E S OTA 5 5401 January 11, 1980 Mr. James G. Keppler, Director Region III Office of Inspection and Enforcement U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137

Dear Mr. Keppler:

PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Dockets No. 50-282 and 50-306 In response to IE Bulletin 79-28, the following is offered:

1.

Pursuant to the requirements of IE Bulletin No. 78-04, a number of NAMCO limit switches were replaced by the EA 180 model.

In addition, EA 180 model switches have been ordered for installation to satisfy newer NRC requirements.

2.

Review of receipt inspection records for NAMCO EA 180 model purchase orders in 1978 and 1979 indicate that all date codes on received switches are either 04-78 or 12-78.

3.

Since none of our switches fall in the suspect date code period no cor-rective action is planned. Receipt inspection of switches to be supplied under the one remaining purchase order (issued November 1979) will identify receipt of any suspect switches. Identified switches will be repaired or rejected.

Yours truly,

@.QkfwV D. E. Gilberts Vice President Power Production cc:
