Dear Sir:

In a letter dated November 2, 1979, you transmitted IE Bulletin #79-25 titled

" Failures of Westinghouse BFD Relays in Safety-Related Systems". Bos ton Edison Company was requested to review the following bulletin action items for applicability at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station:

Item 1 Determine whether or not the following Westinghouse BFD/NBFD relays are used or planned for use in safety-related systems at your facilities:

a.

Type BFD, style 46E7352 or 766A235, coil style 503C428G21 b.

Type BFD, style 5069A95, coil style 1259C71G19 C.

Type BFD, style 5072A49, coil style 1271C50G01

Response

BFD type relays are used in the control logic of the Emergency Diesel Generators at Pilgrim Station.

However, through a physical check of the style and coil numbers of the BFD relays currently installed and in stock, it was determined that the above BFD relays are not utilized at Pilgrim Station Item 2 & 3 Not Applicable Should you require any further information on this subject please contact us at your convenience.
