CALLAWAY PIANTS, UNITS 16 2
Dear Mr. Ballard:
During the meeting with the Missouri Public Service Ccmnission staff, Mr. Fluegge of our staff raised the question of the status of the appli-cation for an operating license for Callaway Unit 2.
Attached is a copy of Union Electric Company's letter dated October 19, 1979 submitted to Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director NE.
The letter indicates that Unicn Electric Company filed an amendment to its application of April 30, 1974, for two ConstInction Permits l
and two Operating Licenses for a nuclear plant designated Callaway Plant, Units 1 and 2.
i l
With respect to Callaway Plant, Unit 2, docket no. STN 50-486, the i
amended applicatien consisted of the technical information required l
by 10 CFR 50.34 and identified as the SNUPPS Final Safety Analysis Report and Callaway Plant Site Addendum.
In addition, the Environmental Report identified for Unit 1 of the Callaway Plant included infomation on the environmental effects of the cperaticn of both units. Additicnal information required to complete the amended applicaticn for the issuance l
of an operating license for Callaway Plant, Unit 2, including supple-mentation of the general infomaticn and environmental report, will be filed at a later date consistent with the scheduled completion of construction of that unit.

Mr. Ronald L. Ballard January 15, 1980 Page 2 The amendment contemplates that the NRC staff will conduct its review through the issuance of a Safety Evaluation Report for Callaway Plant, Units 1 and 2, and an Environmental Impact Statement en Callaway Plant, Unit 1 leading to the issuance of an operating license for Unit 1.
Following the later supplement to the operating license application for Unit 2, it is anticipated that an Environmental Impact Statement en Callaway Plant, Unit 2 would be prepared.
All correspondence in this matter should be submitted to me at the above address.
Very truly yours, M
