400 Chestnut Street Tower II January 16, 1980 Mr. William P. Gammill, Acting Assistant Director for Operating Reactor Projects Division of Operating Reactors Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Gammill:

In response to your letter dated October 2, 1979, to All Power Reactor Licensees regarding the course in Radiation Safety presented by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), TVA find, your proposal acceptable with the following exceptions. We believe the NRC staff members should receive plant-specific emergency training and a briefing on any unique radiological or safety hazards; furthermore, if required by the nature of their assigned duties, the NRC staff members must be quantitatively mask fitted and whole body counted during the briefing period, and whole body counted upon completion of the visit.

We agree that with the above modifications this program will be beneficial by saving the NRC staff members time and by decreasing demands upon our training staff.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY a
