SUBJECT:
RECENT STEAM GENERATOR PROBLEMS AT P0 INT BEACH Recent experiences at Point Beach indicated to us that repeated eddy currert inspections of steam generator tubes (normal single frequency) could not find 80 percent defect at the top of the tube sheet.
I believe this problem may be generic to all PWR steam generators.
I request you develop an action plan by January 14, 1980, on the follow-ing items:
1.
Investigate if the problem is generic.
If it is, recommend necessary steps to correct it.
2.
Develop a plan to upgrade industry and NRC inspection techniques in the tube sheet and similar areas.
