Dear Dr. Chou:

This pertains to Task III of the Load Combinations project. We have received a strong reconmendation from NRR that this task address the following items:

1.

Load and response combination methods for prestressed concrete containments subjected to LOCA and earthquake.

2.

Load and response combination methods for Mark II and Mark III drywell structures subjected to the two load combinations indicated below:

a) LOCA + SSE b) OBE + SRV The latest edition of the Load Combination work plan (UCID-18126, dated July 10,1979) on page 18 indicates that in order to demonstrate the Load Combination methodology, we would select sets of loads and systems for evaluation. This selection has not heretofore been made.

According to our recent phone conversation and consistent with the requirements of NRR, please pursue item 1 above using the Zion, Unit 1 Nuclear Power Plant during phase I which is due for completion in June 1980.

The possibility of addressing item 2 above in phase II will be discussed later.

The purpose of this memorandum is to document these agreements.
