SUBJECT:
ACRS Requests Design-Basis Loading The Task Action Plan B-6 " Loads, Load Combinations, and Stress Limits" addresses the issue of rationale for establishing design basis loadings and loading combinations in performing safety analyses.
A presentation was made to ACRS Subcommittee on Dynamic Load Combination on August 22, 1979.
TAP B-6 has been divided in 4 different phases.
Phase 1 deals with Load / Response combinations and stress limits for mechanical systems and components for BWR plants. NUREG 0484 Supplement 1 which extends the SRSS methodology for combining responses due to LOCA and SSE to all ASME Class 1, 2, and 3 affected system, component, or support is awaiting management approval.
NUREG 0484 Supplement 2, which deals with methodology for appropriate combination of dynamic responses due to pipe breaks, seismic events, SRV actuations and other dynamic events for BWR Mark II and Mark III plants is expected to be available by Dec. 31, 1979.
Phase 2 deals with load combinations and stress limits for mechanical systems and components for PWR plan's. NUREG 0484 Supplement 3, detailing staff position on the methodology is expected to be available by September, 1980.
Phases 3 and 4 of the program are dependent on the input from SSMRP program of RSR/RES. However, Phase 3 which deals with appropriate load / response combinations for containment and structure is expected to be complete by December,1980.
Phase 4 deals with developing rationale for coupling and decoupling the effects of specific events now treated in combination.
It will also deal with decoupling of loads and designation of appropriate stress limits.
An optimistic completion date for this phase is September,1981.
