Dear Mr. Callow:
Chris DeWitt suggested that I write you concerning some infor=ation about the safety of Eig Rock nuclear plant.
My infor ation is.second ha:d but I heard that the mana5ement of the plant c dered the engineers to start it up.
They objected, saying it wasn' t safe, and tock their objections over the head of their managenent to the Clen Ellyn office of NRC ' Ja es Keppler) and he backed them an:1 the plant wasn' t started.
Chris felt'sure you would check this cut for us.
%< e-We have grave ecccerns about the safety of the plant.
We understand t m is a leak they can't find an:1 a rattle.
They don't have two pumps which are required crdinarily but they have an exenption.
No one knows what kind of an evacuation plan there is or how we would be notified in case of an accident, where we would pick up our children, etc.
Now they want to compact t.he storage of fuel rods which is just storic6 waste indefinitely en the site.
I will forward sc=e testinony of Dr. Webb, who once worked at 21g Rock, to you te" A so, I really think with some financial indicate hcw danger ous this =ight be.
l incentives, they could be ceaxed into converting to coal. I understand their norale is pretty low.
Thank you,
/L % %
