Dear Mr. Schexnaydie:
This is in reply to your letter to the President on April 10, 1979, regard-ing shelter from radiation in case of an accident at a nuclear power plant in Louisiana.
I am sorry for the delay but we have been very busy with the aftermath of the Three Mile Island accident.
In Louisiana, the Nuclear Energy Division in the State Department of Natural Resources has the lead agency responsibility for the development and implementation of State emergency response plans in support of fixed nuclear facilitics. The Administrator of the Nuclear Energy Division will evaluate radiological incidents within the State and recommend pro-tective action to limit the consequence to the general public, including the recommendations of resident evacuation and relocation.
Other State agencies and Federal and local agencies will be notified as required to provide assistance in evaluating the radiological hazard and providing implementation of appropriate protective action.
