Dear Mr. MacDonald:

At the request of Mr. C. M. Hosey, Radiation Support Section, Fuel Facility and Materials Safety Branch, NRC Region II, this letter is to inform you that in accordance with 10CFR71.51, Alabama Power Company (APCo) has applied and will continue to apply the provisions of its Quality Assurance (QA) Program to radioactive waste transportation acti-vities. APCo's QA program has been approved by the NRC and satisfies the requirements of 10CFR50, Appendix B.

Under the provisions of 10CFR71.51, Appendix E, APCo has delegated, via purchase document specifications, the development of a QA program to cover radioactive waste shipment activities performed by its contractor, Chem Nuclear, Inc. That program has been reviewed and approved by APCo.

The latest revision of that program was submitted to the NRC by Chem Nuclear, Inc. on December 22, 1978.
