SUBJECT:

NRC Region 1 letter dated December 7,1979 RE: IE Bulletin No. 79-28 "Possible Malfunction of NAMCO Model EA180 Limit Switches at Elevated Temperatures" Limerick Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-352 and 50-353 File: GOVT l-1 (IE Bulletin 79-28)

Dear Mr. Grier:

Philadelphia Electric Company has reviewed IE Bulletin No. 79-28 submitted with the subject letter received on December 10, 1979.

Except for equipment supplied by one vendor, we have determined that there are no NAMCO Model EA180 Limit Switches of the type described in IE Bulletin No. 79-28 used or planned for use in any safety-related equipment located inside or outside containment, including valve position indicating circuitry to containment isolation valves, at Limerick Generating Station. Verbal assurance has been received from the vendor in question that no NAMCO switches of the type described above are used in their equipment. We expect to receive documented confirmation of this fact. Once we receive this documented confirmation, we will plan no further action.

Should this confirmation show that the vendor does use the switches described, we will notify you accordingly.

Sincerely, fw~A-J. S. Kemper, Vice President Engineering and Research Department 8003140 g
