Dear Dr. Joseph If. Ecndrie,

Chairnerson U.S. Muclear Regulatory Commision Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Dr. Hendrie:

RE: NUCLEAR CRUD-DRESDEN I CRUD, radioactive metal oxides "hich act like rust, corrodes the nine lincs which carry cooling t'ater to the core in a nuclear reactor.

There are five miles of these cine lines in each reactor.

Commonwealth Edison " ants to decontamir. ate its DresdenI nlant by flushing 85,000 gallons of caustic solvent through the cines to remove the cruc. This cill cause the solvent itscif to become radioactite.

After the flushing, the !iquid ~rer t.c re sidue 'G be ova,-

crcted, leaving the radioactive residue. This residue will then be mixed with the cement and dumnef into f'C-E-- 55cn11cn drums.

The cost for the Dresden, lant alone is 36 MIILION DCLL/.RS.

The U.S. is going to subsidize the CRUD oroject with ever 8 million do11crs. The remaining cost to be divided betvcen the consuner, charged higher rates, anc Comed. This is hardly fair to the tax, ayer.

I resent being made a nuclear ruinec mig for tSis c::neriment.
