SUMMARY
OF PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS PRE-APPLICATION TOPICAL REPORTS FOR THE BOILING-WATER REACTOR X-300 SMALL MODULAR REACTOR DESIGN On September 26, 2019, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and GE Hitachi (GEH) concerning Pre-Application Topical Reports (TR) related to the Boiling-Water Reactor (BWR)X-300 small modular reactor design.
The meeting was a partially closed meeting, because the staff determined that certain portions of the meeting contained information that is proprietary in nature.
The ABWR design certification renewal topics for discussion during this meeting included;
- 1. BWRX-300 Design and Concepts (public portion).
- 2. BWRX-300 Licensing Plan and Schedule (closed portion).
- 3. BWRX-300 near term TRs planned submittals before the end of this year and planned future TR submittals in support of future BWRX-300 licensing (closed portion).

M. Dudek 2 The meeting commenced at 8:00 a.m. with the NRC staff opening remarks, and an introduction of attendees. The meeting attendees is provided in Enclosure 1. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the public meeting notice. GEH then provided an introduction of the BWRX-300 SMR design and design concepts. This portion of the meeting was public and was completed before 9:00 a.m. at this time the staff opened the meeting to questions from the public participating on the phone and in the room. The public participants had no questions and the public portion of the meeting was then closed.
At 9:00 a.m. the closed proprietary portion of the meeting resumed with proprietary discussions related to the BWRX-300 licensing plans and proposed schedule in addition to the proposed TR submittals to support key licensing objectives.
The staff discussed having more detailed discussions on the specific planned TR submittals later this year. The meeting was then adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
