Enclosed is Certificate of Compliance No. 6697, Revision No. 5, for the Model No. GE-8500 shipping package. This certificate supersedes, in its entirety, Certificate of Compliance No. 6E97, Revision No. 4, dated May 8,1979.
Changes trade to the enclosed certificate are indicated by vertical lines in the margin.
Those on attached list have been registered as users of this package under the general license provisions of 10 CFR 571.12(b) or 49 CFR 5173.393a.
This approval constitutes authority to use this package for shipment of radio-active material and for the package to be shipped in accordance with the pro-visions of 49 CFR 5173.393a.
Shipment of liquids in this packaging has been deleted until such time as an acceptable containment leak testing criteria for normal and accident conditions of transport is established. This acceptance criteria should be based on Regulatory Guide 7.4.
For assembly verification it is recommended that a test of sufficient sensitivity to limit the maximum release to a type A guantity in 3
10 days is used; however, a leak test sensitivity greater than 1x10 3 at-cm /sec, 3
would not be required. The minimum sensitivity of 1x101 at-cm /sec (air at 1 atm and 25*C leaking to a 10 2 at ambient) as specified in ANSI N14.5 should be met.
