Handling, Stowage, and Shioping. All shipping containers received on board DIXON shall be stowed in the radiographic vault to prevent P

exposure to natural elements, inadvertent damage, and loss of control.

10. Insoection, Test, and operatinz Status.

All <uipping containers I

shall be inspected and tested in accordance with Instruction SE of DIXON's approved N.R.C. license. Any shipping container which is found to be defective or inoperative shall ic=ediately be removed for service.

g The shipping container shall be properly tagged with a " Danger Tag" in P

accordance with COMSUBPAC INST 5101.4B and shall not be utilized until all deficiencies are corrected and such action is reviewed by the Radiographic Safety Officer.

11. Non-Conforming Materials, Parts, or Cc=cenents.

Any deficiencies identified in shipping containers shall be recorded on the applicable records established in Instruction 6E, Appenxies C or G.

Such components shall be removed from service and tagged in accordance with paragraph 10 above.

The Radiographic Safety Officer shall initiate the required reports for defective components in accordance with 10 CFR, Part 21, paragraph 21.21.

12. Corrective Action. Any shipping container which is defective in its ability to shield personnel from the established minimum radiation levels (M-of 200 mR/hr on contact of 10 mR/hr at one meter) or is inoperative in any manner shall be removed from service immediately.

Deficiencies which require structural, shielding, wulding or brazing shall not be conducted by DIXON.

In such a case, DIXON will procure a new shipping container.

Defective material reports and subsequent follow-up reports shall be initiated in accordance with 10 CFR, Part 21, paragraph 21.21.

13. Quality Assurance Records. All records required by Instruction 6E of DIXON's approved N.R.C. license for receipt inspection, maintenance, and shipping of sealed sources shall be maintained in an auditable fashion for a minimum of seven years.
14. Audits.

The Radiographic Safety Officer shall conduct "in-process" h

audits during receipt inspections, source changing operations, vault and d

field exposures, and shipping operations.

He will' ensure that the require-h l ments established by DIXON's approved N.R.C. license are strictly adhered y

too.

The audit shall be conducted utilizing Instruction G of DIXON's approved p

N.R.C. license.

In addition, the Radiographic Safety Officer shall conduct a formal audit, quarterly, of the entire Radiographic and Calibration f f Facilities as stipulated in Instruction 6G of DIXON's approved N.R.C.

Additionally an officer, other than the Radiographic Safety (I "

Officer, shall be appointed by the Repair Officer and shall conduct an independent audit during one of the quarterly audits stated above.

Audit deficiencies and subsequent corrective action shall be recorded on copies of Appendix 1 to this enclosure.
