SUBJECT:

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE ACTIVITIES RELATED TO GENERIC TASK A-24, ENVIRONMENTAL QUAllFICATION OF CLASS IE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT Under the current NRR interim organizational structure the make-up of the Technical Activities Steering Comittee will consist of myself as Chaiman and the four acting Division Directors as members. The functions of the Steering Comittee have to a significant extent been delegated to S. H. Hanauer as Director of the Unresolved Safety Issues Program.

None-theless, I wish to keep the Steering Comittee intact to act on selected matters that represent substantial changes in the Unresolved Safety Issues Program or require the attention of all NRR divisions.

It is in this con-text that this request for your review is being transmitted.

The memo describes several alternatives related to the scope and timing of staff action on this issue and provides S. H. Hanauer's conclusions regarding which alternative should be pursued.

Please review the attached memo and provide your coments/recomendations by COB July 25, 1979, as to whether the course of action proposed should be pur-sued.

If you have an alternative recommendation, please provide it along with your reasoning as to why it should be opted inste
