400 Chestnut Street Tower II December 7, 1979 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:

Mr. Thomas A.

Ippolito, Chief Branch No. 3 Division of Operating Reactors U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Coc: mission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Ippolito:

In the Matter of the

)

Docket Nos. 50-259 Tennessee Valley Authority

)

50-260 50-296 In your letter dated November 26, 1979, to H. G. Parris you requested a meeting with our staf f to discuss the proposed radiological effluent technical specifications for Browns Ferry. We were unable to accommodate your requested meeting date because of a heavy workload experienced in early December as a result of preparing for the unit 3 startup from the refueling outage.

In order for TVA to prepare a meaningful and coordinated response to the agenda items provided as the enclosure to your November 26, 1979, letter, we require more time and would suggest January 24, 1980, as a more suitable date for the meeting. This postponement of the meeting and the need for it has been discussed with R. J. Clark of your staff. Furthermore, we are assessing the viability of a written response to your concerns in an effort to minimize or eliminate unproductive use of our respective staffs' time.

My staff will be in touch with your staff to coordinate the details of this matter as appropriate.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY L. M. Mills, Manager Nuclear Regulation and Safety 1554 360 Xoo3 5
