- 2. Valve venders were instructed :: verify valve vall thicknesses by physical ex1 inatien in a manner acceptable to the purchaser.
The data developed by the vender fr : this inspecticn shall be presented for review and approval prior to shipnent.
The vendors were directed to take vall thickness reasurements at:
(a) Er;h no::le end (b) Eelev bonnet flange (c) Ecnnet
- 3. Ncn-conferring valves are to te maintained on " Hold" pending results of an engineering evaluatien.
- h. United Engineers L Constructors (CE1C) were directed to proceed with formal audits of valve vendorc' shops with cbjective of accunulating infct:ation and data that will assist GFU Service Corporation (SPUSC) in assigning a confidence level to each vender.
- 5. All valves as defined in (C)-1 above are to receive vender surveillance by UE&C prior to release for shiprent.
- 6. Babcock and Wilcox was directed to conduct a similar program for valves under their secpe of supply. The data is to be presented to GPUSC for review and approval prior to chipment.

- 1. Valves net installed and as defined above in (C)-1 vill be:
(a) Inspected for v111 thickness at each nce:le end, h places 90" apart. The valve vall thickness is defined as just beycnd the pein; at which the nachining for the veld prep ends, i.e., the untachined portion of the valve no::les.
(b) Visually incpected internally for evidence of core shift and externally for any discrepant cendition.
(c) Accorded an additional review of vendor submitted documentation and data for verificatien of specificaticn requirements.
- 2. Valves installed and as defined in (C)-1 vill be:
(a) Investigated in accordance with a progra: that vill be formulate d free evaluation of the data developed frc: action described in
( C) h above.

- 1. All manufacturers supplying valves for T::I Units 3c.1 and No. 2 in the categories defined in Faragraph (C)-1 vill be required te verify to the satisfaction of the cvner that they are prcducing their prcduct in accordance with 111 requirements of applicahle specificaticns.
- 2. For placement of new orders 2nd renainder of valves not shipped en existing purchase crders, this verification vill be determined prior to placing the order er shipping the retaining valves.
- 3. valves on site er at venders' facilities that are found to be non-conforming vill have decumented engineering evaluation shcVing the technical basis and reasons fer acceptance of the non-conformance.
This deficiency was reported orally to the Office of the Division of Ccepliance, Eegien 1, Hewark, Jew Jersey, on April 26, 1972. We will continue to keep the AEC advised as to the results of the pregra=, as it centinues.
