Three Mile Island No. 1 Dauphin County, Pennsylvania Docket No. 50-289 Metropolitan Edison Company Susquehanna River February 5, 1968 l
Gentlemen:
-I
{
'de have received your ccmments relative to the Three Mile Island atomic plant, and we are concerned j
with the following matters:
1.
No make up water is specified fcr the cooling tower, this should be set forth so that the water demand on the Susquehanna River can be determined.
2.
No information is given relative to the amount of radio activity that will be released to the Susquehanna River or the atmosphere.
3 The river apparently is a scurce of oater for Lancaster, Chester, and Baltimore.
It is to be noted-that the river is subjected to fluctuation.
i 4.
A major portion of the plant is experimental.
There should be proof attached to the preliminary safety analysis report demonstrating that the experimental portions of the plant are proven to be absolutely safe.
l 5
The spray to prevent Icdine (I2) release is I
experimental and there should be absolute filters in the stack to prevent a particulate discharge to the atmosphere.

20545 June 19, 1909 RE: Three Mile Island No. 1 Dauphin County, Pennsylvania We believe that if there is a blowdown, additional radio active wastes will be discharged to the river.
- ^
Would you advise me as to the quantity of radio active material that will be discharged into the river by this plant.
It would appear that if there is an inversion, that there may be a radio active fall out.
Would you advise me as to what information you may have received regarding this matter.
For the foregoing reasons, we respectfully request that you deny the application of the Metropolitan
- Edison Company to erect the Three Mile Island No. 1.
We would. appreciate receiving from you any River Life reports or modifications of the plans sub-mitted by the applicant.
Very truly yours, ry, S k & &
