Dear Mr. Samet:
Your communication to Chairman Hendrie earlier this year concerning the Three Mile Island incident was forwarded to me for reply. We regret that because of a significant increase in agency work load so much time has passed and that perhaps my reply is not in time to meet your needs.
As you know, the incident is very complicated in a technical sense and requires considerable study by the utility, this agency, and other Government agencies.
It will be some time before all of this i' =ccomplished.
In the meantime, we are attempting to issue information on past and current events at the site as soon as possible commensurate with accuracy.
The information on the Three Mile Island plant and the incident is quite voluminous.
It is impossible to provide all information in reply to your inquiry.
We can provide you with what information is available and likely to be available as time goes on.
Since your letter was received, a number of reports have been issued on the incident, others are being prepared, and others will be prepared as investigations continue.
