Items considered at this meeting are summarized below.

Accident Investigation: Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 2

Accident and its Implications

The Committee continued its investigation of the accident at ihree Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 2 (TMI-2) and the implications of this acci-dent for other operating nuclear power plants.

The Committee met with representatives of the NRC Staff and representa-tives of Combustion Engineering, Inc., General Electric Company, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation to discuss their responses to the 7MI-2 follow-on Inspection and Enforcement Bulletins 79-06,79-06A, 79-06B,

The Committee's Interim Reports No. 2 and No. 3 on these matters were sent to you on May 16, 1979.

Further evaluation of the accident and its implications is planned.

Projects The Committee continued its review of the application for a Construction Permit for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station Units 4 and 5.

1 The Comittee continued its review of the application for an Operating License for the Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant Units 1 and 2.

The Committee discussed the need for quantitativ's safety goals for the overall safety of nuclear power plants. A report on this matter was sent to you on May 16, 1979.

The Committee discussed the need for ACRS review of the proposed rule

contained in SECY-79-278 regarding interim safeguard measures to be ap-plied to spent fuels. A letter on this matter was forwarded to you on May 15, 1979.
