NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION g

%, v,/
April 18, 1979 The Honorable Daniel Mica United States House of Representatives Washington, D. C. 20515
Dear Congressman Mica:
Thank you for your letter of April 5,1979 regarding information requested by Ms. Donna Browning relating to the nuclear power situation in the State of Florida.
~
Ms. Browning expressed concern about what he Federal Government is doing to avoid accidents of the type erc.vuntered recently at the Three Mile Island Plant near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The NRC has recently issued instructions to operators of reactors similar in design to the Three Mile Island Plant regarding steps to be taken to prevent an occurrence similar to that encountered at Three Mile Island. A copy of those instructions are attached.
In addition, the Commission is looking very closely at that particular incident and are assessing its impact on other reactors and our own regulations.
Chaiman Hendrie, in his testimony of April 10,1979, before the Senate Subcommittee on Nuclear Regulation dealt with some of these actions and I am enclosing a copy of that testimony for your information.
We will review Ms. Browning's questions regarding nuclear power in the State of Florida and provide you with that information as soon as possible.
- incerely, j
