9WT Q-NO 4/4/'M Dear XXXX The accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant has created conditicns that still pose a potential, although dimirishing, threat to the pcpulation in the vicinity of the plait.

In view of its statutcry responsibility to assure adequate protection of the publi; health and safety, the Ccmmission and its staff are fully occupied ir the many urgent activities required to see that the poi.eni. al danger is reduced to an acceptably Icw level.

At the same time the Ccmmission and its staff are investigating the imp'ications of the accident for the safety of Other similar nuclear plants to determine whether any acticn shculd be taken with respect to these plants.

Because of these circumstances, the Commission is unable to respond to your specific request for information.

Through statements of tne Cc=is-sicners and senice staff, state and Federal officials as wil as the general public are being kept fully informed concerning the accident and its consequences.

Scme technical questions that have been raised cannot be answered at this time simply because the ohysical situation at the site prevents acquisition of the relevant data.

Please be assured that the Commission intends to publish all information on the accident as it beccmes available and that, as scon as tha present period of emergency is ended, the Comission will respond to individual specific questions thrcugh correspondence and public statements, as aell as testimony at Congressional hearings.
