Dear Mr. Hendrie:

Words just cannot express my wrath at your thoughtless, 1: eensitive statement.

I as referring specifically to the quote "It's like a couple of blind men staggering around making decision" that I read in the April 23 issue of Newsweek.

MTQ You have doneAbut het back the acceptance of blind individuals as capable human beings.

I don't know if you are acquainted with any sightless individuals, but I am, and seme of the= are as well-educated, intelligent, and wealthy as you are, not to mention the fact that they are much more perceptive than you seem to be, judging from your re= arks.

You owe every blind person in the country you serve an apology for furthering the misunderstanding of their problems.

In hopes that you do so, and make an effort to alter your inaccurate perception oL the blind, I remain...

Dear Sirs:

Your selection of Mr. Hendrie's statenent in regard to the Three Mile Island incident ("It's like a couple of blind men staggering around =aking decisions")

was highly inappropriate.

Stop for a minute and think of the misunderstanding you're generating in regard to sightless individuals, who are just as informed and capable of naking decisions as everyone else.

It made a very graphic qcote, but still renains a sensationalist and tasteless example of the press nisusing the influence it. -luis; on its readers.

Mr. Hendrie made an ignorant statement and you chose to publicize it.

On the behalf of the sightless, I hope you choose to be more careful in the future.

Sincerely, Julia Roch cc:

Mr. Eendrie n
