TML RAD WASTE SHIFM.ENTS Eackground:
It is my understanding that the licensee's procedures require that an on-site IE HP be notified prior to each rad waste shipment.
It is also my understanding that NECo coordinates rad waste shipments for Met Ed.
For infor~ation on shipments to Richland the NECo contact is Frank DeMet (509-377-2411).
For information on shipments to Barnwell the NEco centact is Ray 1,ambert (606-7c4-6611).
In several instances we have been requested to provide certain infor.ation on these shiptents, both prior to and after the fact.
Also there is con-siderable public interest in this area.

d n'ith the change in ou-in-plant HP organization, now is a good time to formalize somewhat our procedures for routine inspection coverage, including independent ceasurements in this area.

Make sure we obtain f or each shipcent, prior to its leaving the site, information on:

ECo shipment coordinator 2.
inform the Office of State Programs (OSP) of the infor.atien in item 1 prior to the shipment leaving the site.
The OSP contact is W. Kerr (FTS 492-7767; Home 301-762-0199).
(OSP cay then contact the designated NECo contact for information on the exact routing and location of the shipment at any ti=e.
OSP will also inform interested states and NRC Congressional A". airs, if requested.)
