Dear Chairman Rosenthal:
This letter responds to your request of March 22, 1979 for information on the status of the rulemaking proceeding to develop a value for radon in Table S-3.
You may recall that development of a rule was postponed pending receipt of data supporting the draft GEIS on Uranium Milling. The data on radon was recently received by the Staff from Battelle-Northwest Laboratories and the draft GEIS on Uranium Milling is presently e:cpected to be published next month. The Staff is presently preparing a Commission paper and a proposed rule which it plans to send to the Commission by April 6,1979. This rule will propose a new value for radon releases but will not address the question of health effects from radon nor the period of time over which suen eff ects should be calculated.
