Background:
It is my understanding that the licensee's procedures require that an on-site IE HP be nctified prior to each rad wast e shipment. It is also my understanding that NECo coordinates rad vaste shipments for Met Ed. For information on shipments to Richland the NECo contact is Frank De'!ct (509-377-2411). For information on shipments to Ba rnwel l the NECo contact is Ray Lambert (606-784-6611). In several instances we have been requestea to provide certain information on these shipments, both prior to and af ter the fact. Also there is con-siderabic public interest in this area. With the change in our in-plant HP organization, now is a good time to formalize scmewhat our procedures for routine inspection coverage, including independent ceasurements in this area. Action Recuired 1. mal 2 sure we obtain for each shipment, prior to its leaving the site, information on: a. contents b. type of packaging c. transport company d. destination e. NECo shipment coordinator 2. Inform the Office of State Programs (OSP) of the infor1:ation in item 1 prior to the shipment leaving the site. The OSP contact is W. Kerr (FTS 492-7767; '!c a J- ? iM. (OSP may then contact the designated NECo contact for information un t..- cxact routing and location of the shipment at any time.
