NSD NORTHERN STATES POWER COMPANY PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT RR #2

\\Velch,.NIN 55089 June 7, 1979 Mr. James G. Keppler, Director Region III Office of Inspection & Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Co=nission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 Attention:

R. F. k'arnick Reportable Occurrence No. 79-19

!nformation gained as a result of investigating the original purchase order requirements for the 18" and 36" Henry Pratt containment isolation purge isolation valves indicates that dynamic loading, during post-LOCA flow be-fore valve closure, was not included in the original stress analysis.

The re-fore, the capability of the purge isolation valves to close following a design basis LOCA will be demonstrated by a re-analysis including the dynamic effects.

All purge valves are administratively controlled to assure closure under accident conditions.

This event is reportable in accordance with Technical Specification 6.7.B.1.1 in that components were found which may perform in a less conservative manner than that assumed in the safety analyses.
