c The Honorable Gary Hart, Chairman Subcommittee on Nuclear Regulation Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Mr. Chairman:
As you may know, the fiuclear Regulatory Commission is required, pursuant to Section 170i of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, to report annually to Congress on indemnity operations over which the Commission has jurisdiction.
submitted to Congress such indemnity operations reports on or a April 1 of every year since 1958.
In addition, NRC includes very similar information on indemnity operations in its Annual Report to Congress prepared pursuant to Section 307(c) of the Energy Reorganization Act of a
1974.
M6 The NRC is considering eliminating the preparation and submittal to
=
Congress of the annual indemnity operations reports as separate reports.
Rather, the NRC proposes to include all information contained in the
+
indemnity operations reports in its Annual Report to Congress.
believe that inclusion of such information in the Annual Report to We Congress fulfills the statutory requirements of Section 170i and elimi-nates the duplication of information resulting from the present method of reporting.
If your committee wishes to continue to receive separate annual reports on indemnity operations, please so inform us.
Sincerely, I
l eph M. Hendrie Chairman p
