The Connission discussed the November 6, 1972 petition filed by the Porter County Chapter of the I aak.Walton League and cthers, and an identical petition on behalf of Local 1010 cf the ~Jnited Steelwcrkers of America.
The Cc= mission, by a vote of 5-0, dete nined to send a mencrandu= to the licensee and the NRC staff recuesting the sub.ission of views on the petition.
In taking this action, the Commission recuested the Office of General Counsel tc revise the proposed memorandum in accordance with co=ents made in the meeting.
The revised mencrandum should invite petitioners to cc=ent on the issues discussed, if they chocse to do so, and should ask the staff te include in its response a report on the status of its actions on (a) the licensee's recuest to use shorter pilings and (b) the
.retitioners' March 21 rec _uest to be afforded the opportunitv Of a hearing.
