NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATIIK,' EXPERIENCES PEACH BO'ITOM UNITS 2 and 3 December 1978 Peach Bottom Station Unit 2 Unit 2 continued operation at rated power until late on December 1,1978, when a load decrease of h00 We was required in order to cdjust the control rod pattern. The Unit then increased power on a preconditioning ramp and reached full power on December 3 On December 8 a scram occurred on loss of feedwater flow and subsequent low Reactor Vessel Level.
A signal cable on the feedwater flow recorder was found grounded to the panel. This caused a fuse to blow in the master feedwater controller circuit which caused loss of its output signal. The Unit was returned to service on December 9 reaching 87% power late on the same day. On December 10 load was reduced to 675 We due to a loss of vacuum caused by a broken instrument line. Vacuum was recovered, load was increased and the Unit reached ful? power on December 11.
On December 16 a lead reduction of 100 We was taken to adjust the control rod pattern. The Unit preconditioned back to full load and remained there until December 26 when a load reduction of 100 We was again required in order to adjust the control rod pattern. The unit ramped back to full load by December 27 Unit 3 Unit 3 continued to operate at rated power until December 8 when a brief load reduction to 550 We was taken aue to a vacuum loss caused by a valving error following the Unit 2 scram a few minutes earlier.
In late December operation was restricted to 95% ;mwer due to feedwater heater leaks and limiting suction pressure on the Reactor Feedpumps.
