NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE FEBRUARY 1979 At the onset of the February reporting period, power generation was continuing at a reduced output of 21 MWe-net (49% reactor rated thermal power).

Operation at this reduced level was due to the necessary securing of the 1A Forced Circulation Pump in January 1979 due to indications of excessive face seal wear.

Forced Circulation Pump 1B was providing core recirculation flow.

Operation continued at this power level for the remainder of the month.

The reoccuring Forced Circulation Pump 1A Seal problem hac F3en analyzed.

Improvements have been obtained in seal parts and repairs will be effected during the forthcoming refueling outage which is to ccmmence in late March 1979.

The maximum power level at which the reactor was operated during February 1979 was 49% of rated thermal power and the maximum not electrical generated power was 21 MWe-net.

The off-gas activity levels, as measured at the 150 ft3 holdup tank effluent monitor (prior to entry into the augmented off-gas holdup system) did not exceed 285 curies / day during February 1979 and the alpha activity in the primary coolant did not exceed 9.5 x 107 pCi/gm during the reporting period.

These valves are considerably below the Tecnnical Specification limits.
