j Docket Nos.:
50-522 50-523 MEMORANDUM FOR:
R. E. Jackson, Acting Chief Geosciences Branch, DSE FROM:
S. L. Wastler, Geologist Geosciences Branch, DSE
SUBJECT:
JANUARY 22, 1978 MEETING WITH PUGET SOUND PONER & LIGHT - SKAGIT NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT On January 22, 1979, at the request of J. Mecca of Puget Sound Power and Light Co. (PP&L), the NRC staff met with representatives of PP&L. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Skagit review schedule and the best method for submittal of the new in-formation. The meeting focused on three specific topics:
- 1) Alternative site geology,
- 2) Content and schedule of the applicants' next submittal, and
A lis+ of attendee's is attached.
With regard to alternative sites, the applicant (PP&L) was interest-ed in a projected completion date for the staff review of Skagit alternative sites. As a result of the discussion on this topic, it was concluded that the staff geologic report on alternative sites could be completed within 45 days depending on weather conditions in the site areas.
Based on a projected submittal date of the end of January, 1979 for submittal to NRC of PP&L aeromagnetic data, the applicant (PP&L) proposed a meeting with the NRC staff for the week of February 5, 1979. This meeting would entail a presentation of the aeromagnetic data to the NRC staff by the applicants' consultant. The NRC staff would receive copies of this report at the meeting. Approximately two weeks following this meeting, the applicants' geology report would be available. The applicant requested another similar meeting 7903 060lo7 G.

in order to take a presentation on the geology report. The iRC staff would again recaive the report at the meeting. A copy of the table of contents for the geology report is attached.
In addition to scheduling, a discussion of the staff approach to an LWA review as compared to a CP revicw was discussed. As a result of this preliminary discussion, the staff felt that further guidance to PP&L could not be provided without discussion with URC nanagement and attorneys. The NRC staff indicated that such a discussion would be held, and any further guidance would be brought to the attention of PP&L.
