C O '.: 4 tSSIO*J E R Mr. Jack Smith The Stanley Foundation Stanley Building Muscatine, Iowa 52761
Dear Jack:
You were kind to send along a copy of the prepublication draft of the results of our deliberations at Airlie. As always, it was both a privilege and a pleasure for me to participate in the discussions, and I know that I benefited greatly from the exchange of views. Nuclear proliferation continues to be a subject of widespread concern and potentially grave impact.
The Stanley Foundation's continued interest in promoting discussion of this vital subject will bear increasing fruit.
It cannot but help the search for ways to limit, if not eliminate, the potential for proliferation while at the same time facilitating the use of nuclear power by those nations which need it for their econimic and social well-being.
Jean joins me in thanking you for your call to our friends, Pat and John Beers.
I know they appreciated it as we did.
We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a most happy and successful New Year.
With warm regards.
Sincerely,
.w.-
