Sj ogren TELEPliONE (617) 366-9011 X2281 REPORT MONT:1 February 1979 SU:t!ARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES At the beginning of the month the plant was operating at ~97% reactor power limited by the 864 MWe maximum load permitted on the low pressure turbine blading.

On February 3, 7, and 14 load reductions to 80% were required to locate and plug leaking condenser tubes.

On Februar 15 during routine CEA exercises, CEA #41 dropped to 155 steps.

During its retrieval, it again dropped - this time to 147 steps.

It was then withdrawn with no further problems. Additional testing, including the taking of electrical traces of the coil power programmer output, could not duplicate the problem or reveal the cause.

Again on February 19, 21 and 22 load reductions to 80% were required to locate and plug additional leaking condenser tubes.

On February 24 a scheduled load reduction to 75% was performed to allow Eddy Current testing of all condenser tubes. Tubes that indicate a wall loss of 40% or greater will be plugged.

On February 28 while still performing ECT on the condenser tubes, an additional scheduled load reduction from 75% to 55% was performed to repair a leak on the P-2A feedwater pump's seal water return line.

Additionally, after the repairs are completed on P-2A, the oil flinger-ring on P-2B will be adjusted for better performance.

At the end of the month the plant was operating at 55% power with repairs being made to the P-2A feedwater pump and ECT being performed on the condenser tubes.
