Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
The following information is submitted in response to your letter of December 19, 1978, requesting information concerning IE Bulletin 78-14.
Item 1.
No information is available to us as to when the solenoids were packaged. We can supply the dates they were received for each unit. The first shipment of solenoids for Unit 1, containing Buna N material, vs received on December 18, 1970, and the last shipment was received on March 19, 1971.
The first shipment for Unit 2 was received on June 19, 1972, and the last shipment was received on January 19, 1973.
Item 2.
Because no information is available to us as to when the Buna N material was manufactured, we r_an only project a shelf life from when the material arrived at the plant site. These dates show the seven year shelf life having already expired on Unit 1 and an expiration date of 1979 and 1980 for the material on Unit 2.
The necessary parts have been ordered and replacement will begin during the Unit 1 Spring outage provided the necessary parts are available. The Unit 2 change out has not been scheduled, but it will be performed as plant conditions permit.
Our present plans call for a Preventative Maintenance proce-dure to be ready within 30 days which will meet both the manu-facturers recommendations for replacement parts and their method of replacement. This procedute will contain a checker board replacement pattern and will allow a complete change out over each five year period following initial replacement.

February 5, 1979 Item 3.
With consideration being given to the time our solenoids have been in service with little or no trouble, we believe that re-placement extended over a five year period would in no way be detrimental to the reliability of our Hydraulic Control Units.
Should you have any questions, please contact my office.
Very truly yours, li, l t G
