Dear Mr. Secretary:
This is in response to the President's memorandum of April 10,1979, for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies,
Subject:
Required 5%
Reduction in Agency Energy Use.
Recent events have required intense and expanded activity by the U. S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Increased intaraction at reactor sites which are generally remote and require automobile travel will likely increase the use of automotive fuels.
However, economies will be pursued wherever possible without adverse programmatic impacts.
This agency is housed in leased space operated by others, with its energy consumption reported by others. With no direct control over the mechanical and building systems, we will support the overall reduction effort as cooperative tenants and careful consumers.
The enclosed announcement to all of our employees includes the President's directive to achieve the specific actions in his memorandum.
