SUBJECT:
MECHANICAL SNUBBER CAPACITY LIMITATIONS We recently received a verbal inquiry from Region I regarding NRC's position on the use of Pacific Scientific Company's (PSCO's) intermediate and large capacity mechanical snubbers.
NRR has witnessed the testing of PSCO's intermediate capacity (50 KIP -
120 KIP) snubbers and have reviewed and accepted the qualification test report which confirms that the test results met all of the PSCO test obje cti ves.
NRR will continue to follow the design, development and testing of PSCO's large capacity (500 KIP - 1000 KIP) snubbers currently under development.
NRC's position on the large capacity will be forwarded after their review of the test results.
Installation of these large capacity snubbers prior to NRR review and acceptance should be reported to IE:HQ.
